Welcome to Kitsap Food Forest

Our food forest is not just about growing—it’s about fostering a sustainable ecosystem. These plants are selected intentionally to support each other, reduce maintenance, and maximize yield, all while promoting soil health and increasing biodiversity.

See Whats GrowingWhat is a Food Forest
Fruiting plants

Our food forest is home to nearly 100 fruiting trees and bushes, also thriving patches of raspberries, loganberries, and strawberries. From apples to peaches, blueberries to blackberries, our diverse assortment offers a year-round bounty of fresh, natural flavors.

Vegetable

Our food forest thrives with a variety of vegetables, including garlic, onions, leeks, shallots, summer and winter squash, corn, and potatoes. Unique gems like oca and mausha tubers highlight our diversity. Leafy greens flourish in 11 raised beds, interplanted with fruiting trees for a vibrant, bountiful ecosystem!

Other plants

In our food forest, we’ve carefully selected a range of plants to create a vibrant, self-sustaining ecosystem. Attracting beneficial insects & pollinators with flowers like yarrow and bee balm. Lupins to fix nitrogen, sterile comfrey for nutrient mining, and thyme for ground cover. Alot of these plants also deter pests, mulch, and enrich soil when they break down!

Sustainable Food Production

A food forest is a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem designed to replicate nature, offering an abundant and organic source of fresh food. Once established, it demands little upkeep yet provides an extended harvest of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and nuts. Growing your own food not only reduces dependence on store-bought goods but also helps to significantly cut your carbon footprint.

Improved Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health

Food forests support diverse plant and animal species, creating an ecosystem that promotes natural pest control, pollination, and soil health. The mix of plants, from ground covers to fruiting trees, contributes to richer biodiversity, which can improve soil fertility and water retention while reducing erosion.
